Baseball for Christ began as the vision of Mike Winslett, owner of DTH Expeditors, Inc. and First Baptist Newnan Student Minister Brian Morgan, designed for a single purpose...To share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the sport of baseball.
The Ministry took their inaugural mission trip in June of 2010 to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The team was made up of 16-to-19 year old students representing three Coweta County, Georgia high schools: Newnan High, East Coweta High, and Northgate High. All players had to be nominated by their respective coach, along with recommendation letters from their pastors and complete a mission application, which included a personal interview. While in Mexico, the team put on baseball camps for the local children each day where they shared Gospel and gave personal testimonies. There, they played local teams from the area, with venues ranging from the local fields of Cancun to the professional stadiums of the Quintana Roo Tigers and the Merida Leones of the Mexican professional league.
In 2012 the ministry will take its third trip to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
This year will be highlighted by games in pro stadiums in Cancun against the national team and Merida against Universidad del Mayab. The team will also address the University Students that day as well.
In addition, camps will take place in both areas of the country. Two special camps will be held this year, one for the children of men and women held in a state prison and another in a poor area of Merida where over 100 children are provided limited food weekly.
Once again the team will minister to the children living in the poorest area’s and speak at the schools.
