Baseball for Christ is a vision of DTH Expeditors, Inc. (Mike Winslett) and First Baptist Newnan Student Ministry designed for a single purpose...To share the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the sport of baseball.
The Ministry plans to take their inaugural mission trip June 20-26, 2010 to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The team will be made up of 16-19 year old students representing the four county high schools. Each student must be nominated by their respective coach, have a recommendation letter from their pastor, and complete a mission application which will include their testimony. Applications will be distributed November 1, 2009 and need to be returned no later than January 1, 2010.
We are fortunate to have Kenny Morris, head coach of Newnan High School, coaching the team in 2010. In addition, two assistants will be named and both Brian Morgan and Mike Winslett will travel with the team as team pastor & devotional leader.
While in Mexico the team will put on sports camps each morning for the local children where they will share the Gospel and give their testimonies. They will be featured in 4-5 games in the evenings.  Games will be played in Cancun at the professional stadium home of the Quintana Roo Tigers, Kantunikiln, and Isla Mujeres. The week will be highlighted with a Friday evening game featuring mixed squads as a showing of fellowship.
The government of the city of Cancun is supporting and promoting the event and has begun to enlist sponsorship.
In October, meetings were held with Salvador Moreno Aguire (Head of Religious Affairs, city of Cancun), Alejandro Luna Lopez (Director, General City Of Cancun Youth Development) and Adam Pinto (Religious Affairs) in conjunction with Mayor Greg Sanchez to finalize the trip.
This will be the first junior team from the US to play baseball in Cancun.
Already we have enough funding to pay for the 2010 trip for all participants and coaches, as well as a uniform supplier who will donate all uniforms and gear.
Future teams will be supported through DTH Expeditors, Inc. and other cooperate sponsors, as well as any others wishing to support the ministry.
